After I shared my Vintage Sheet Patchwork Prism Quilt last week, it got me thinking about what I want to sew this summer! So I decided to make a little list of summer sewing goals! Okay, maybe it's not exactly little, hehe! I do love to sew! :)

Hand Dyed by jenib320

1. Sew a quilt using my hand-dyed fabrics! I'm planning on doing another batch of dyeing in early June, still need to figure out what pattern I want to use. Maybe Sparkling Cider again? :)

Darling Ranges by jenib320

2. Branch out and try some other garment patterns! I have the Darling Ranges dress and Banksia top both by Megan Nielsen lined up! Picked up a few new Simplicity patterns last time they were on sale too!

3. Finished up some works-in-progress! I have quite a few quilts and other projects in various stages, it would be nice to wrap a few up and make way for new!

4. Sew curtains for our apartment! This should really be first on the list, considering we moved in last August! It's high time to have at the very least valances. Thankfully we have roller blinds, but it's made it hard to get motivated to sew actual curtains!

Traveling Handmade! by jenib320

5. Sew a Weekender Bag (pattern by Amy Butler) for Sewing Summit! I still need to find just the right fabric for it, and hopefully a good deal on it too! I've been eyeing this pattern since we did Travel Handmade last summer! (For more on all the bags above, see this post!)

Spring Carnival! by jenib320

6. Wrap up a few of my hand stitching projects. I have quite a few half-finished embroideries, cross-stitches and a knitting project. Just need to work on them more often!

Pincushion Collection by jenib320

7. Sew at least one new pincushion for my collection! :)

That sounds like I've got plenty to keep me busy!

What are your summer sewing goals?

  4. My goal for myself is 12 projects. However, before I can finish those, my mind and eye is already planning for other things.

  6. I love your Hungarian pincushion!! Of course, I love all things Hungarian. It is my heart country even though I am Swedish and Polish. What a sweet collection.

  7. My #1 goal is to sew curtains for our family room. As soon as we are finished with my daughter's playhouse, that will happen!

Also, since I will have some sit-down time this summer, I want to do some handwork. Maybe hexies? Can't decide yet. :)

  13. Working on a Chevron lap quilt for my mom for Christmas... Going to use one of your tutorials for a throw quilt for my youngest daughter (19) for Christmas.. Two more after that and the majority of my summer will be gone and most of my shopping list for summer.

  14. I'm making a Weekender bag for at least my mom for Christmas. I want to make one for all my lady relatives (not that many - thank goodness for lots of brothers!), but don't know how far I'll get. Can't wait to see what you choose!

  15. When you start dyeing, be sure to blog! I've really wanted to play with that myself lately.

    Projects:
Finish: Retro Flower Quilt, DickNJane/9PatchChevron Quilt, T-shirt Quilt, Baby Quilt

Sew corset, finish Couture Dress (Susan Kahlje/Craftsy.com)

Quilt and sew zippered pouch for sketch book and pens, etc., using fabric painted by my daughter.

    and the list goes on.

  16. Can't wait to see all your completed projects! I too have a long list for this summer! Most importantly, I want to finish my picnic quilt and do a couple charity quilts for the two guilds I belong to...then some other fun stuff! Good luck with your projects!

  17. Great list of projects! I have a lot of things on my list too. One project I'd really like to finish is quilts for my three girls (the tops are all done, I just have to get them quilted & bound) and a quilt for my husband's and my bed. We'll see how it goes!

  18. I have three stacks of bee blocks that need to be sewn together into quilt tops!

  19. I'm working on a quilt for my husband for his first father's day, top is done, just working on the backing and getting it quilted, etc. I have to quilt my Sparkle Quilt wall hanging and I want to cut into some vintage sheets I bought to make a quilt for my sister. Of course, besides the father's day quilt, if I don't finish these just this summer it's not a huge deal to me. Thanks for asking!

  20. I love your Hungarian pincushion. It comes from the Matyo region where I was born and raised. It is a pretty hand stitched piece of art. :)

  21. First up, I have a poodle skirt for my daughter to make before her school's sock hop. Then I've got three BOMs to catch up on, including your HST BOM. Our sunroom needs curtains. I need jeans. I've got two shirts to do for my husband. I've got a postage stamp quilt to finish, two quilt tops to finish with borders and then quilt, and at least one quilt that has half its blocks done but needs to be finished and assembled. Oh, and I want to get a head start on the holidays and make a whole mess of your drawstring bags for candy gifting. I won't get to all, I know! Oh, well - it's kinda fun knowing it's all there waiting for me.

  22. Good idea to make a list of projects! Maybe if I did that I'd get more completed. Love the pincushions...they're so cute.

  23. This is a great idea Jeni. Do you mind if I post a list of sewing goals too? I love that you are making the weekender, I got my fabric picked out and it should be here the 21st. I am scared but excited.

    xoxo

  24. Yep! It sounds like enough to keep you busy, for sure! I've been thinking I might make a Sparkling Cider, too. It's so fun! I can't wait to see your hand-dyed fabrics together. I know it will rock. And I've got clothes on my list, too. I'd like to finish up swoon, too!

  25. My summer sewing goals are less about the actual sewing this year - not that there aren't quilts to finish and probably some knitting projects too - but the main thing I want to do is get more involved! I'm planning on the Madison Modern Quilt Guild meeting at the end of this month and I should devote some time to catching up on blog reading and writing since I basically didn't touch either for 2 weeks surrounding the move.
Looking forward to seeing your projects - esp the garment sewing!
