FAQ

Have a question? Feel free to email me at jenib320@gmail.com! :)

I asked a question in the comments but never heard back!
Even if I don't have a great answer, I always make sure to answer questions. The only reason (other than me unknowingly deleting your email!) you wouldn't hear back from me is if you have not included your email or you are a No-Reply Blogger. This means that your email address is not viewable in your profile and therefore there is no way for me to get back to you.  Find out if you're a no-reply blogger here and how to fix it.  If in doubt, please email me directly with your questions!

I do receive a lot of emails each week, so it may take me a bit to get back to you! I appreciate your patience!

What kind of sewing machine do you use?
I have a Janome Horizon 7700 and a Janome Memory Craft 4800, and I love them both! They've served me very well.  I quilt the majority of my own quilts, from minis to a queen sized quilt. I have a vintage Singer Featherweight 221 as a backup/travel machine.

What kind of camera do you have?
I take almost all of my photos with my Canon 40D DSLR camera. I rarely take my 50mm 1.4 lens off! I occasionally take photos with my Canon Powershot SD880.

What programs do you use to create your graphics and edit photos?
I use the Adobe suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design) for graphics and buttons and Adobe Lightroom for photo editing.

I'm a new quilter, and I don't know where to start!
I learned to quilt using Elizabeth Hartman's quilt making basics tutorials. I highly recommend her book, The Practical Guide to Patchwork, for beginners as well!

What kind of rabbit is George? Does he live inside?
George is a Netherland Dwarf rabbit! He weighs in at only 1.75 lbs! To learn more about how I take care of him indoors, go here to visit his blog!

How do you find so many great things thrifting?
I go often, usually once a week. It's all about perseverance! For more on my thoughts about thrifting, see my Thrifting 101 post!

How do you care for and sew/quilt with vintage sheets?
See my All About Vintage Sheets post!

Do you quilt your own quilts?
For the most part, yes! I had my first quilt as well as my giant flannel quilt longarm quilted.  When I send them out, I send them to Christina of The Sometimes Crafter and Lindsay of Eileen Quilts. Both women are very professional and do beautiful work!

How do you make the Favorites mosaics?
I use the Mosaic Maker at Bighugelabs.com. It hooks up with your Flickr account and lets you make mosaics from your favorites, sets, photostream, or image links from all over the internet. You can then save your mosaic to your computer or upload it directly to flickr!

How do you get so much done?
First of all, I don't have any children! Second of all, I only work part time, so a large part of the day I am free to work on crafty endeavors.  I also always like to be busy doing something with my hands!

I'm thinking about buying my first sewing machine, can you give me some advice?
I think the most important thing about buying a sewing machine is being able to test it out first. Try before you buy! Sew, Mama, Sew has a great guide to buying a new sewing machine including a PDF worksheet to take with you while shopping! See their post here.

  1. Hi - I have made some drawstring bags using batik following your tutorial.

Q - can I sell those bags online? Of course, I will give credit to you for the pattern.
