Homemade Microwave Popcorn

IMG_0268, originally uploaded by jenib320.
Before I was given my vintage air-popper, I used to make popcorn in the microwave. I don't like the taste of microwave popcorn so I was happy to discover a do-it-yourself microwave method. Even though I have an air-popper, I still use this method when I'm just making a little popcorn or I don't feel like dragging it out!

Easy Microwave Popcorn

1/4 cup of popcorn kernels
1/2 - 1 tablespoon butter
1 brown paper lunch bag

1. Melt the butter in the microwave. About 30 seconds should do.

3. Fold over the top of your bag once.

4. Fold it over again.

5. Place bag folded side down in the microwave and cook for between 1.5 and 2 minutes. You'll need to adjust this to your own microwave.

6. Pour into a bowl, top with butter and a pinch of salt.

Enjoy!

  6. That's how we make microwave popcorn too. It's cheaper and healthier than the bags of microwave popcorn but still just as quick to make.

  7. Wow...it is THAT easy?????

We stopped eating the store-bought microwave bags about a year ago, after some serious contemplation over health risk reports linking the gunk they use to butter/flavour the popcorn and respiratory illnesses and even brain cancer plus trying to reduce the fat in our diet.

We've gone through several air poppers (new and vintage) in an attempt to make popcorn that actually pops and a machine that doesn't whine so hard it makes you temporarily deaf.

YOUR paper bag version I will try tonight as soon as I get home from work!

From the bottom of my popcorn bowl, I thank you....

  9. I was at the thrift store yesterday and thought of you when I saw some Pyrex...don't worry, though, it was only the basic white with blue :) Funny how bloggy friends seep into our brains, lol
