If you follow me on Twitter, you may already know about this piece of news, but I realized this weekend that I never talked about it here on the blog! So.. I got a job! And it's sewing related!! I'm teaching sewing classes as a part-time instructor at The Sewcial Lounge! It's a sweet new shop, the grand opening was actually the weekend I was away at Sewing Summit! Pretty cool, huh? It's a sew by the hour shop, a great place to hang out and sew with friends or take a class! I stopped by on Saturday (lucky me, it's 5 minutes from the apartment!) and took a few photos for a little tour!
This is the shop's lovely owner, Sara! She is super friendly, funny, and has great taste in fabric! Every time I go in we end up chatting for a while! :)
The Sewcial Lounge carries all MODERN fabric! Yaaaay! Freespirit, Westminster, Alexander Henry to name a few! I cannot wait until the Echo she ordered comes in!
Yummy Laminates! I love this one from Silent Cinema by Jenean Morrison!
The shop is full of cute little vignettes like this one!
Notions! Gotta have notions!
A great selection of patterns! Quite a few I want to try myself, especially the Schoolhouse Tunic!
In addition to quilting cottons and flannels, a healthy dose of home dec fabrics, including, Outside Oslo! I was so psyched when I walked in to see those!
A sweet little hangout spot!
The space is outfitted with ironing boards, irons, a serger, Janome machines and plenty of room to spread out!
If you're local to Madison, I hope you'll come check it out! Next week I'm teaching some Handmade Holidays classes! Coffee Cozies, Drawstring Bags, Scarves, and Placemat + Napkin sets! For all of December's classes, click here!
Okay, now go give Sara some love on The Sewcial Lounge's Facebook Page! :)
Hope you enjoyed this little tour!
Yay! That's exciting news! And the shop looks so lovely, too. :)
ReplyDeleteIf I weren't 1000 miles away, I'm sure I'd be there constantly. It looks very fun. Congratulations on your teaching!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so cool! I am sure you'll have a lot of fun teaching classes there. So wish we had a neat place like that here!
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks like a wonderful place!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool Jeni! This little shop seems to have a lot in common with The Workroom here in Toronto which (as you know) is a pretty cool spot. Congratulations on the job by the way - I know you're going to do awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea! I'll have to get over to Madison sometime and check it out!
ReplyDeleteWow! How exciting!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I could pop in and sew with you or take a class. Looks like a great spot :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! How exciting for you, and for them I'm sure. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a great idea! I want it here in Georgia!
ReplyDeletemy knees got a little weak when i saw those huge rolls of outside oslo. swoon.
ReplyDeleteO...M...G.... I am SO jealous of you! That place looks awesome! I haven't found a single store in Arizona that sells modern fabric. It's such a bummer. The only place I can find fabric is a dirty little place that sells bolt ends, remnants and lots of old stuff. And the place is like a yard sale... just mountains and mountains of fabric you have to dig through to find anything worth buying. Enjoy your pretty, shiny new store. I'll just be here in dusty ol Arizona rummaging through dusty ol fabric stores.
ReplyDeleteWe need one of those here!!!
ReplyDeleteHope your classes go well next week :)
I once worked in a Singer Store, selling machines and fabric. Just a word of warning...its DANGEROUS to your paycheck ! ~lol~
ReplyDeleteThat place looks like heaven! I think she's have to kick me out or I'd end up living there!!
ReplyDeleteMake the schoolhouse tunic! I just made one last week and I love it!!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful place! Good for you working there. & yes, do make yourself a schoolhouse tunic (or two. or ten). I did. Easy and fun
ReplyDeleteWish I was in the area!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! Oh my goodness! I am actually nearish to Madison and will be able to check it out. I likely can't get in there until January though. Too much to do here for the moment.....
ReplyDeleteWow, Jeni! That place looks A-MAZING! I'm so excited for you and wish there was a place like that around here. I can hardly find any modern fabric within driving distance, let alone a place to hang out and sew with friends. I hope your classes go great!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the perfect job Jeni!!! That is a fantastic idea for a shop I tell ya!
ReplyDeleteI'm sooooo jealous of this! Seriously, is she franchising? Can I open one in Metro Detroit (you know, after I win the lottery.)
ReplyDeleteGreat place! I used to live not to far from there when I was in college. If I'd been a sewer then, that store would have been heaven! Hopefully they'll get some college students. It'd be a great place to socialize! I'll have to stop by next time I visit my folks up there.
ReplyDeletethat's incredible jeni, what an awesome place to work! I bet you're having a blast. One of these days I'll have to come for a visit.
ReplyDeleteWish I lived in Madison. I would totally hang out there. Good luck with your classes
ReplyDeleteI second Nicke's comment on the Outside Oslo -induced swooning. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for you and your new classes at this super cute shop!
What a fun shop... Wish I lived there!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome place to work!! I'm sure your classes will be super fun. :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived close enough to visit! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great store, love those bright colors.
ReplyDeleteooo! another shop i need to visit while visiting friends in Madison! love the business plan too!
ReplyDeleteomg, I would love to hang out there!
ReplyDeleteWanted to thank you for the time and effort (and gorgeous pics!) you put into your blog. For some time now I've been doing much more blog surfing than actual sewing - knowing I wanted to make things, to quilt - but not finding the inspiration or direction I needed. Your photos and projects tripped some sort of switch in me, and for the first time in years I've been excited to sit down and make something fun. I even tried my hand for the first time the other night at free motion quilting...and after only a few inches of playing on a practice swag of fabric, produced two really credible quilted pot-holders. I was so excited!! That free motion foot isn't nearly as intimidating any more!! Thanks again...
ReplyDeleteLisa
This is AWESOME!! As soon as the holiday craziness subsides I will definately be stopping by! Will have to drop a few hints to hubby tongiht..gift certificate :)
ReplyDeleteMaggie
what a great resource! i'll definitely have to check out that shop soon.
ReplyDeleteJeni, this place looks wonderful! You're so lucky to have it so close by. Would you consider writing this up as a guest Shop Talk for the Delish blog? I toured a fabric shop in Tofino this summer and wrote about it and have a few Vancouver locals I'll be posting about in the early new year, too...
ReplyDeleteTamara - Would be happy to! Just shoot me an email with what exactly you need! :)
ReplyDeleteReally cool little shop!
ReplyDeleteI want to live there :-)
As the owner of Sweet Chairity in Madison WI, a home-based business in which I refurbish and upholster vintage furniture, I'm always looking for modern fabrics to juxtaposition against traditional furniture.
ReplyDeleteI was in there today, and was not disappointed. I think that Sara may be my new best friend! Great place!
