Envelope Clutch by jenib320

Thanks for your kind words on Monday! I mailed the pillow off to it's new home today, in the end it wasn't as hard to let go as I thought it would be! I think my partner will really like it, and that's enough! But, I am vowing to make myself something equally as special!

Today I got sidetracked from all my other work, by Anna's new pattern, The Envelope Clutch! I've been so excited for this one, I wasted no time and whipped one up this afternoon (the small size). It came together so quickly and easily. And I even put in a zippered pocket for the first time! I used a new-to-me interfacing for this bag, Buckram. I was going to behave and use canvas as the pattern suggests, but when I saw the buckram, my curiosity got the best of me. It's stiffness made it a little difficult to work with, but I really like the result. It gave the bag so much structure!

I used Far Far Away II and III by Heather Ross and lined it with a Sketch print by Timeless Treasures. I'm so happy with how it turned out! Now I need somewhere to go so I can use it, haha! :)

Retro Flowers Mini Quilt by jenib320

Earlier in the week I finished up my Retro Flowers mini quilt! I did a little free motion quilting and bound it up in a Modern Meadow print by Joel Dewberry. This pattern was so fun and made me feel really accomplished. I am scheming to make the quilt size version! Pattern by Christina Lane can be found here!

Spring Carnival by jenib320

Since I finished up two projects I can start a new one, right? Good thing, because the Spring Carnival templates by Katy Jones arrived yesterday! I fell so head over heels for her pillow, I didn't hesitate to buy up a set of these templates and the appropriate paper pieces! I am cutting into my Good Folks by Anna Maria Horner for my project! I just need to decide on a background!  You can find the Spring Carnival pattern on Katy's blog, here!

Working on a few projects for my Sewing Summit class too! I'm also teaching a fabric selection class later this month at The Sewcial Lounge if you're local! :)

Pattern is from Modern Log Cabin Quilting.

I hit up my favorite thrift store and managed to find some quilting cotton! I couldn't believe my eyes, more handwriting fabric! The selvedge is mostly cut off, but it's from 1995! Crazy!

  10. Buckram was used to make hats. Definately stiff stuff but sometimes it has to hold up some pretty weird shapes like those hats at the Royal Wedding!!!

  11. Love your clutch :-) I used to work in a home dec. fabric shop, we sold and used buckram fro making stiffened fabric covered tie backs for curtains. I bet it really makes the clutch hold it's shape.

  16. Two words: Stash. Envy! You always have the best fabrics! I LOVE that handwriting fabric; it would be perfect for a teacher gift, and you always find the happiest florals.

So the buckram you used for your envelope clutch -- is that the stuff that goes in the headings of drapery panels to make the pleats stiff? Is it just loose in your bag, or sewn in?
