Happy Monday! Today I'm here to share a fun new pattern with you from the lovely folks at Fat Quarter Shop! Their Youtube channel is chock full of fun tutorials, shortcut quilt patterns, and loads of interviews with your favorite designers! The Pockets & Pies Apron Pattern is their newest video tutorial!


I choose to make mine with the Quite Lovely print from my third fabric collection, Dreamin' Vintage, shipping this month! I paired it with a turquoise dishtowel from Target and some lovely 50wt Aurifil thread.


It's a quick and easy project, perfect for beginners.  It has some really fun details, like the divided pockets!


It just takes a dish towel and 1 yard of fabric!

The Sports Fan Quilt

Happy Weekend! I wanted to pop in quickly to share a fun quilt I made earlier this year.  I've been meaning to post about it for a while now, so I thought I better go ahead and do that today while I have some extra time! Otherwise, I'll never post about it!


Michael and I have been together for 6 years, but somehow I still hadn't made a quilt just for him.  For the longest time, he never asked for one.  Finally last winter, he did, but with the craziness of last year, I just didn't get around to making it.  This year, for his Birthday I set aside the time and made him his own quilt! I haven't made too many manly quilts, but he gave me plenty of guidance.  Very specific guidance.  It needed to have Detroit Red Wings fabric, Detroit Lions fabric, Detroit Tigers fabric, and Cleveland Cavaliers fabric in it.  Oy! 


I started searching for all this sports fabric, and was not coming up with much luck, at all.  I managed to find some Cavaliers fabric but that was pretty much it.  So, I decided to forgo that idea and instead use solids.  I went with half-square triangles because I love them, and they are geometric, which felt like it would go well with a sports theme.  Each half-square triangle is made up of colors from one of his favorite teams.  The orange and navy is for the Tigers, gray and blue for the Lions, white and red for the Red Wings and the wine and gold for the Cavaliers.

I was a little nervous he wouldn't realize what I had done, but he got it right away, and it was a hit! It has been getting lots of use this winter! I quilted it with my typical doodle loops, and finished it off with some solid binding. I used all Art Gallery Pure Elements for this quilt, specifically: Snow, London Red, Burnt Orange, Nocturnal, Parisian Blue, Ash, Spiceberry, and Honey.  It's bound in Moonstone. I used 1/2 yard of each solid, and the half-square triangles finish at 8.5". The quilt measures 51"x68". Super quick and easy!



But the real party is on the back! A couple years ago, I thrifted this amazing vintage NFL sheet.  I knew immediately it would make it's way into a quilt for Michael one day.


So, now Michael has his own quilt, and I feel much less guilty! :)

Weekly Snapshot

Happy Tuesday! It's time for another weekly snapshot! I've been doing lots of fun things since last month's update, because I get too busy preparing for Quilt Market again! I love traveling with my Singer Featherweight, so my travel bag has been getting a lot of use.  I am hoping to have a pattern ready for the set this Spring! I need to make one for my white Featherweight anyways!


Two weekends back, I headed out to Iowa for a crafty weekend with Deedee and Anna! We took a screen printing class at Home Ec Workshop in Iowa City.  It was a BLAST! Seriously, we had so much fun! It's such a cute shop too, if you're ever in the area! I decided to do a little print to use for knitting bags! I can't wait to stitch some up!


I have a Spring Day birthday, and it was wonderful to celebrate with a fun weekend! Deedee is an amazing baker, check out this crazy awesome cake she made for me! Seriously, she's the best. And, the inside of the cake is purple, my favorite color!


This past weekend, I went up north to visit Holly! It had been almost two years since I had last made the drive up, so it was really nice to visit again! We did all kinds of things, including two rounds of yarn dyeing! We are both totally hooked! My two yarns are on the left, and Holly's are on the right.  I want to use them right away! Or just look at them. I can't decide!

We used the book Hand Dyeing Yarn and Fleece as a guide, it was really helpful. They were dyed with Jacquard Acid Dyes and MCN High Twist Fingering Yarn from Wool2dye4.com.


Holly has a crazy cute Morkie named Jackson! We caught him dreaming on my Dreamin' Vintage fabric.  So sweet!


A few weeks ago, I also had the pleasure of making the short trip up to Mill House Quilts for a lecture and trunk show! I loved this Nordika quilt they have hanging in the shop.  It's available as a kit on their website, here.


I treated myself earlier last month to a new t-shirt from Patchwork Threads! They've got all kinds of awesome quilty t-shirts, make sure to check them out!
