Happy Friday! Today I want to share a few recent pillow covers that I made using my vintage sheet stash!


Lately I've had good luck finding nice feather pillow forms at the Goodwill Outlet. Since they can't be washed, I seal them in big black trash bags and let them sit in the summer heat in our garage for a month or so before running them through the "sanitize" setting on our dryer. Once this group were ready to come into the house, I set about making covers for them! I had two 20" forms and one 24".




For the first 20" pillow form, I decided to make a pillow using the Woven Quilt pattern, which can be found in my book, Patchwork Essentials: The Half-Square Triangle. This one is made completely from scraps! Honestly, I'd love to make an entire quilt like this!! I really love how it turned out, so scrappy and happy. I used the wide hem of a sheet for the back, which worked pretty well! It gapes a little bit, could probably have made the two halves overlap more, but that's okay. It still works!




For the 24" pillow form I really wanted to use the pillow cover I made when I released my Giant Vintage Star Quilt Pattern. Unfortunately, at the time I could not find it anywhere (I've since found it, yay!). So I decided to make another one! I had just thrifted the background sheet, which is what I used as the starting point for this pillow. For this one I put in a simple zippered backing.




Last but not least, this pillow cover was a fun experiement. I wanted to make something that used up some more of the wide sheet hems. I put a foundation for the front and then sewed the sheet hems onto it, overlapping them to hide the raw edges. The result is pretty different from what I normally make, but I like it all the same! And I used up a couple hems, so win-win!!


Baby girl is climbing all over everything right now, so it's nice to have a few more pillows to add to the mix. Our couch is constantly surrounded by pillows since her preferred way to get off of it is headfirst! Haha. Also, I just love making pillow covers. They're not too time consuming, you can experiement, and they really liven things up in my opinion! These were a lot of fun to make.

Recent Vintage Sheet Projects and More Bundles

Happy Wednesday! Today I have a little shop news to share as well as a quick updates on a few recent vintage sheet projects I've been working on.

I finally was able to get a flat shot of my vintage sheet plus quilt that I made this Spring! It was so big that it didn't fit either of my photo taking spots here, so I took it back to Ohio with me to photograph on my parent's barn.


I also photographed my vintage sheet side braid quilt while I was home!! I don't think I've shared any of this quilt here on the blog, I hope to write up a post about it soon. It was also the first vintage sheet quilt I've had longarm quilted, and it's so dreamy!!


I love having garland or bunting hanging in our living room and I recently made myself a new one! I think I need to take it down to get a proper photo, but here is a little peek. I love how it turned out! It's so cheerful.


Right now I'm working on a new pillow cover! I have a big pillow form to cover, and decided to make the pillow from my giant vintage star quilt pattern. Mostly because I cannot find the pillow that I made when I released the pattern. I know it's in the house somewhere, but it honestly seemed faster to just make another than search too hard for it!


I've been really loving working so much with sheets again, it's so satisfying!

Giant Vintage Star Baby Quilt in Geometric Bliss

Happy Tuesday! Today I have a recent baby quilt finish to share!


My stash of baby quilts that haven't been claimed by baby girl has become severely depleted. So when Michael's coworker had a baby this Spring, I didn't have a quilt ready for gifting! I decided to make a baby quilt using my Giant Vintage Star Quilt Pattern. I've actually only made one of these previously, the version I made when writing the pattern! Thought it would be a good one to revisit.

I used fabrics from my Geometric Bliss* fabric collection.


I had to use the big strip for the backing! It makes a great back in my opinion! I kept the binding pretty minimal, just some straight lines.


It's bound in the little stripe print!

Of course the quilt needed a matching bag! I made the Artist size from my Lined Drawstring Bag Pattern. This is my go-to size for gifting baby quilts. I used more prints from the same color way of Geometric Bliss*.


The bag is finished off with some nylon paracord.

December Monthly Report

Happy January! It's time for December's monthly report. See past reports here.

Took a couple photos of my Giant Vintage Star Quilt in my sewing room recently, it's such a happy quilt. Find the pattern here.


I spent most of the month prepping for the holidays, including make a number of handmade gifts! I'll share the rest soon, but for now here is a pillow that I made for my Dad. This churn dash pillow matches a quilt I made him a few years back: Deer Sparkling Cider Quilt. It also matches a star pillow I made for him earlier in this year, so now he has a pair to go with the quilt.


It seemed fitting that the last project I made in 2019 was a pair of matching lined drawstring bags. This is the project size from the lined drawstring bag pattern, my personal favorite. These were for Michael and his Sister, made from this cute cherry pie fabric that once belonged to their grandmother. I have a good amount of the fabric left, so I'll probably make a picnic table cloth or something with the rest. The accent is from my Mom's stash (I made them in OH while we were visiting) and I picked up a blue solid to match for the linings.


I managed to finish a quilt among all the other things going on! My scrappy pineapple quilt is now finished. I took photos while I was home visiting, so I'll be sharing those later this month.

Brought in a little fabric this month, almost all of it was used for gift sewing, so I feel okay about it! I was hoping to finish up a knit project over the holidays, but it just didn't happen. Hopefully I'll finish it this year!


Early in the month we had quite a bit of ice, I had to capture everything covered in it!


I made a new sweet recipe this season, Cinnamon Harissa Caramel Corn. It was surprisingly simple to make and really good!

Liberty Lawn Giant Vintage Star Quilt

Happy Tuesday! I'm excited to share another recent quilt finish with you today! This was the first quilt I started after we moved, and I managed to finish it up just before the end of the year.


This Giant Vintage Star Quilt was made with lawn fabrics! The lovely folks at Alice Caroline provided the Liberty of London prints for the quilt top. Thankfully, I had just enough white Cambridge Lawn (my favorite lawn solid) to put together the top.


The first version of this quilt was made with a rainbow of vintage sheets, so it's unsurprising that it looks so nice in a rainbow of Liberty of London lawn prints!


For the quilting, I thought it would be fun to play off the star design, so I chose a loopy star design. The quilting was done by Melissa of Sew Shabby Quilting. I sent along Quilter's Dream Orient batting, which is perfect paired with the airy lawn fabrics!


For the backing, I used a variety of liberty lawn yardage from my stash. At one time I had grand plans to make lots of lawn garments, but in all honestly these prints are a little for my wardrobe. They make a beautiful backing though!


I had a bit of trouble deciding on binding, but ultimately went with this pretty gray and orange floral liberty print. I wanted something that would look good with the scrappy backing and the rainbow front. This print had been in my stash for a while, so it worked out well in the end!


Finally I was able to photograph one of these star quilts on a barn! The design was inspired by barn quilts, so it seemed very fitting.

March Monthly Report

Happy April! It's time for March's monthly report. See past reports here.


I didn't finish many projects this month, but I did make more progress than I did in February, so that's something! Even though we moved here over three months ago, I still haven't fallen into a good work routine. I'm definitely looking forward to feeling more settled. Maybe once the weather gets nicer? We'll see.

I stitched up a Giant Vintage Star Quilt from a beautiful Liberty selection from Alice Caroline Fabrics. Still trying to decide how I want to quilt it!


I am pretty close to being out of thank you cards. I remembered I picked up a box of plain kraft cards/envelopes from Target last year. I decided to put my Circut Maker to work and use it to cut the "Thanks" out of some cards. Add in some fabric scraps and voila! I was really pleased with how well this worked out. I made a little video of how I made them here.


I stitched up this cute little mouse for my Mom for Easter! The pattern can be found here. It was fun digging through my Liberty for the ears and her little dress. I can't wait to make one for myself too!


No gift would be complete without a Lined Drawstring Bag to put it in! This sweet house print from Yours Truly by Kimberly Kight reminded me of my Mom, and I pulled the other fabrics around it.

I really went off the deep end fabric-wise this month. Red Beauty Textiles, which had an amazing Nani Iro selection, closed in March. I used this as an excuse to build up my double gauze stash. Add in my birthday as an extra excuse to treat myself and there was no hope! On top of that I ordered another quilt back and finally checked out a local quilt shop. I'm going to try to buy ZERO fabric in April, because this trend is not good for my stash!



Right at the end of March I pulled out a leftover quilt top from my book (Patchwork Essentials: The Half-Square Triangle). I got a quilt backing made and basted it, so I hope to finish it up this month.


Last but not least, I decided to sit in on George's Easter picture this year! He is such a love bun. He was spoiled all day with extra treats and pets :)
