Hello! This is a quick post specifically for those of you that have subscribed to receive my blog posts via email. Unfortunately, the service that I've been using for this feature since I first started my blog is being discontinued at the end of June. I am working with a new service to seamlessly (hopefully!) transfer over your existing email subscription to their service. If all goes well, you won't need to do anything to continue to receive my posts in your email inbox!

The new email delivery service is called "follow.it". When you receive an update that I have published a new post, that is who the email will be from, so don't be alarmed!

I'll be publishing a new blog post sometime during the first week of July (7/1-7/7). If you don't receive an email letting you know I posted, you may need to re-sign up for emails using the new "Follow by Email" form that can be found at the bottom of any page on my website (incolororder.com). Or simply respond to this email and I'll make sure you're added back onto the list. I'm hopeful that won't be necessary and all will transfer over as planned! Fingers crossed.

In Color Order is 10 Years Old!

Today is my blog's 10th birthday!


On February 9th, 2009, I wrote my first post here at In Color Order. It was actually a sewing project too, a purse from Anna Maria Horner's first book, Seams to Me. See that post here.


2009 was a big year for me. I started this blog in February. In August, I brought George bunny home and moved into my first apartment. In November, I made my first quilt!


Ten years and almost 1500 posts later, here we are! I'm still posting my sewing and quilting projects, my thrifting finds, and sharing little life updates. A lot has changed since I first started this blog, but I'm glad I've stuck with it all these years. There have been times where I haven't felt much like posting, but I never gave it up. The blog world has changed so much since then too, it's kind of crazy!


I was 19 years old when I started In Color Order, and I had no idea what kind of opportunities it would bring me. Because of this blog, I started my business, I designed fabric, I wrote a magazine column, I have contributed patterns to books and magazines, I lectured at conferences, I taught sewing classes, designed my own line of sewing patterns, and even wrote my own book. Blogging also introduced me to so many amazing people, and helped me make some of my best friends. What an adventure this has been!


I could ramble on, but let's keep things short and sweet. Thank you for your support and readership over the years, I couldn't have kept going this long without you all.

I'm Starting a Newsletter!

Happy Wednesday! Today I wanted to share the news that I am starting a newsletter! I have been thinking about doing this for a long time. I prematurely put up a sign up form last Summer, but I never sent anything. My apologies if you signed up! I put up the sign up without doing any concrete work towards actually putting something together. I felt so embarrassed when I finally took it down, realizing that I had been completely unprepared to take on the project.

Now I'm ready to dive in and really do it! I hope you'll join me! I think it's an interesting avenue to explore, and I'm excited to communicate with you in this way.


So what to expect from my newsletter? You'll hear from me up to twice a month, once at the beginning of each month and a second letter mid-month if there is anything else exciting to share. I'll be sharing a little bit of everything including projects from the archives, my favorite things from around the web, reader projects, and a tip/tutorial/free pattern each month! I also want to dedicate space to talk about what it takes to be a happy creative person (I'm still learning!), and how I am working to stay inspired and avoid burnout.

In addition, there will be a featured product each month with an exclusive discount code available only to subscribers. Sweet!


Phew, let's see what I can really pack into a single month! This is completely uncharted territory for me, and I'm excited to try something new. It will certainly be a learning experience, and I look forward to taking you along for the ride. I'm sure I'll make some mistakes along the way, but part of trying something new is figuring out what works and what doesn't. The only way to find out is to try!

Housekeeping

Happy Thursday! Hope you're all having an enjoyable week! I don't have anything too exciting to share today, but rather a few housekeeping type things!

First and foremost, you may have heard that as of July 1st, Google Reader will disappear.  I'm pretty bummed, and was really hoping maybe they'd change their minds, but it seems that it will indeed go away.  I haven't found an alternative that I'm super crazy about yet, but Blog Lovin' has been the best contender so far.  In Color Order is on there, so you can follow there if you'd like! Either way, if you follow using Google Reader, you'll need to find an alternative way to get updates! I link to all the posts on Facebook and on Twitter too!

Flagged Quilt Tutorial

Now onto a slightly more serious matter.  I have gone back and forth about this for quite a while and honestly didn't really have a straightforward policy about it.  After chatting with a friend last month about this subject, it made me realize that I needed to be more specific and really make a decision about it.  I want you to know, that you are free to create items from my tutorials and sell them on a small scale: in your online shop, at craft fairs, to your neighbor, for charity etc.  I just ask that you please give credit to Incolororder.com!

This however does not apply to the actual physical tutorial.  Please don't copy, redistribute, or sell the actual tutorial. They are a lot of work and that wouldn't be very nice! Thank you for understanding!

I've added these terms to the top of the tutorial page and to the bottom of the main page for your reference.  If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask!

Now for happier, lighter things! I've been slowly re-doing all of the pages found in the tabs above! Most recently my About page.  You can now learn all kinds of funny things about me! I'd love to add more, so ask away, tell me what you want to know!

New Look + Exciting News!

Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a good start! I'm gearing up for a great one!

I have some beyond exciting news to share with you tomorrow, so I wanted the blog to look its best! It was high time to update things, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.  I think everything looks fresh and clean! I hope you'll take a look around!

I did all of the re-designing myself using the Adobe Creative Suite (I know a few of you asked!). I edit my photos in Lightroom and Photoshop, the graphics were drawn in Illustrator, and my patterns are put together in InDesign. 

Okay, you're all going to come back tomorrow for the news, right?! You won't want to miss it! :)
