Happy Tuesday! It's time for another mini quilt! As I mentioned last week, I've been busy making a few birthday mini quilts this Spring and I'm going to share one each week.  This week's mini is for Jacey!


I have been wanting to try this technique out for a while, and Jacey is all about this type of improv piecing, so it was the perfect match! I used the stitch and flip triangle technique as outlined in Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gehring and Katie Pedersen.  I choose the design and took color and quilting inspiration from the Blind Co-Pilot Quilt in the book! It finishes at 18" square.


Jacey loves grellow (gray + yellow), and I added some pops of navy and orange to mix it up! I wanted to keep the quilting simple like the quilt in the book, there is plenty going on in the piecing and prints! I used the darker gray Aurifil 50wt thread from my Favorite Things thread collection.


For the mini quilt top used mainly blenders, all from various Art Gallery Fabrics collections.  For the background I used Pure Element Moonstone and Honey for the backing. 


It's bound up in a sweet mustard print from Reminisce by Bonnie Christine! Isn't that a great print for binding? I love it. As always, I attached my binding by machine. You can find a tutorial for the method I use here. It's easy and quick!

Amanda's Mini Quilt

Happy Tuesday! Over the next few weeks I'm going to share a mini quilt each week that I made this past Spring.  When we rearranged the sewing room this past winter (still need to get decent photos to share!), I realized just how many sewing/quilting/crafting books I own. Quite a lot as it turns out.  This is great, but I am pretty bad about making anything from them.  So I decided to do something about it! I had a goal this year to make more sewn gifts, so I paired these two challenges together and made some Birthday mini quilts.  Today I'm sharing one I made for my friend Amanda, for her birthday later this month!


Amanda loves blues and grays, so that's where I started as I was pulling fabrics for her mini quilt.  I focused on mint, turquoise, teal, dark gray and black.  I used mainly blenders, all from various Art Gallery Fabrics collections.  I wanted something carefree and cool, so I turned to Quilt Improv by Lucie Summers.  She shares a variety of building blocks to work from, and I went with the x-block technique.  It was lots of fun to make and I think it turned out really cute!


I used small blocks to make an 18" square mini quilt, perfect for hanging in the Mooverse (Amanda's craft room!). I quilted free-motion swirls using white Aurifil 50wt thread.


It's backed in a print from Rapture by Pat Bravo and bound up in one of my favorite prints from Chromatics by AGF In-House. 


As always, I attached my binding by machine. You can find a tutorial for the method I use here. It's easy and quick!

I love making mini quilts because they are a small opportunity to play.  They don't take much time or fabric, so it's the perfect chance to try something new and different!
