September 2016 Report

Monday, October 3, 2016

Happy Monday! Starting off the week with my report for last month. Things have finally settled down and felt more back to normal the second half of the month. And we've officially got our Fall weather which makes me really happy. It's a time of socks and sweatshirts! Now that it's not so hot I've started baking again, and generally just feeling more comfortable in our apartment.

Michael and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary this month. Crazy that it's already been a year, and yet it feels like it's been longer. Here's to many more happy years!

It was another month that was heavy on the computer side of things. I finished up some obligation sewing and managed to release my two new patterns, Webbed and The Elemental Tote. It's amazing how much there is to do behind the scenes immediately before and after a release. I had forgotten! I had a trunk show and lecture in Fort Atkinson, I pulled out all my half-square triangle quilts. It reminded me that I need to share the rest of the quilts from Patchwork Essentials. I'll be sprinkling those in over the next few months.

I'm looking forward to minimal obligations the rest of the year. Time to start on my gift making and power through on a few of my goals.

The nice cool weather we've been enjoying is really motivating me to knit each evening. I finished the second outer mitten for my Fiddlehead Mittens and have started knitting the linings! I'm SO excited to finish them and wear them this winter!

As I've mentioned, to keep myself accountable I'm tracking my yardage for both yarn and fabric. Here is how I did in September:

September Fabric
Used up: 57.25 yards
Brought in: 7.5 yards
Net: -49.75 yards
Year to date: -237.625 yards

September Yarn
Used up: 0 yards
Brought in: 912 yards
Net: +912 yards
Year to date: +2236 yards

This is the lowest amount of fabric I've brought in for a month all year! I definitely had to resist the urge to buy quite a few times. Reducing my stash has been so satisfying though, that kept me from hitting "buy". We'll see if I can keep that up. I have my eye on a few prints I might buy a 1/2 yard or so of, as a treat! Nothing crazy though. Most of the fabric that went out this month was the canvas drawstring bags, a finished quilt, my shower + sink curtains and a destash.

I think it's safe to say that in terms of my non-stash goals, I've pretty much fallen off the wagon. I'm going to try to work towards those this month but I'm trying not to be too hard on myself. As Jacey reminded me a few weeks ago, I've made so much progress on my double wedding ring, even if I don't exactly meet my goal. I am really close to finally finishing my Archer Popover, so that's something! Just need to hem it and do the buttons/buttonholes.

I did stitch up a quilt top with the remaining half-square triangle blocks from Patchwork Essentials, so look for one more setting tutorial later this month.

Oh, George. He got a new box, it's up above the rest of his play area, so we have been calling it his luxury high-rise box. As you can see, he loves it!

Happy October!

  1. Loving the gloves! Can't wait to see the finished ones.

  2. Happy Anniversary. It's hard to believe it's been a year already. George looks quite comfy in his luxury high-rise. :D

  3. I have been working on my daughter's quilt for six months or so now. I picked blocks from your Patchwork Essentials book and used Prairie by Moda charm packs. I'm finally almost done with the top! Then to piece the back and try to decide how to quilt. Always a tough choice for me. Can't wait to get back to it!

    1. Silly me. I picked blocks from you Half Square Triangle book. Pardon my error. :)

  4. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary.

  5. Congratulations both of you. I wish at least 70 more years to both of you, just like my mom and dad
Well done of the fabric accounting, and George is a happy snappy love of a bunny. There is nothing better than a new box.

  6. Happy Anniversary! Time is flying by.
You have so many irons in the fire, I am sure it is hard to keep track. :-)

  7. Happy Anniversary, Jeni! We just celebrated our 18th in September but I can tell you it feels like the 1st anniversary wasn't that long ago. :-) Your mittens look AMAZING, by the way!

  8. Love George's new high rise! I see you have also found a way to recycle USPS boxes!! They do work great for many things!!!
