Pink + Red Improv Mini by jenib320

It was really busy this week! And this coming week will be just as busy, especially here on the blog! Fun stuff coming up!

Last night I needed a relaxing project, something that I didn't have to work on. After seeing Megan's valentine's mini quilt and Ali's progress on a valentine's day project, I was itching to make something festive, but nothing too complicated. I pulled out my red and pink scraps and just started playing. Piecing, trimming, cutting and piecing back together. I had a lot of fun digging through my scraps and making a dent in my white and off white solid scraps to finish it off. It was nice to just let go and sew. And, now I have a cute valentine-y mini to hang up! :)

I finally cut out the pieces for another shirt using the Tova pattern last night! I am very excited to be using this Habitat dot by Jay McCarroll for this one. I had originally purchased it for a skirt, but since I almost never wear them, I decided it would be better used for a top! I hope to make some more progress on it tonight! To see my first Tova top, and quick review of the pattern, see here.

Still plugging away on my Mendocino blocks! I've been working on them each Sunday for the past few weekends. I'm looking forward to working on them again tomorrow!

A little sneak peek of February's block for our HST Block of the Month! I've been saving your questions over this past month and will be answering them tomorrow in preparation for February's block this week!

I have been having a hard time resisting new fabrics lately! Picked up this yummy stack from Fat Quarter Shop last week!

(Fabrics are Girl's World Vibe by Jennifer Paganelli, Lush by Patty Young, Good Fortune by Kate Spain, Weekend Clubhouse by Michael Miller, and It's a Girl thing by Michael Miller)

I have finally started addressing the windows  in our apartment! Yay! I knew I wanted something scrappy for my sewing room window after seeing Deedee's scrappy garland last summer! I used the finished side hems and strips that get trimmed off from vintage sheets when I'm cutting fat quarters and simply knotted them directly to the existing curtain rods!

Speaking of vintage sheets, the shop is absoutely bursting with vintage-y goodness! These are just a few of my favorite patterns currently in stock!

  1. The rabbit is cute. Dumb question the black material with the pins in it what is that your making?

  2. I'd really like to know what those new fabrics from FQS are, especially the pink with the white flowers and the pink with the white lines.

  3. Lots of eye candy on this post but i really love the wondow treatment! Too cool!

  4. Love that valance in your sewing room! I'm getting ready to make one by tying some of my vintage aprons together. And, yes, what are you making with your black polka dot fabric?

  5. Cute mini!
Can't wait to see the Tova!
Super excited about the next HST block!
Of course I love the scrappy valance ;)
And George is adorable as always!

  6. The window valance is perfect!

  7. Lovely mini and Mendocino.
I'm excited to see what the next HST block will be.
I could not resist the lure of Lush either...

@Jan-Maree the pink with stripes is from Lush by Patty Young.

  8. I love your Mendocino block! It's just so sweet. I love the colors :)

  9. such pretty stuff! i love it all, can't wait to see your tova and george is so adorable!

  10. Love your Mendocino block and your valance is perfect for a sewing room! Looking forward to seeing the next HST block too, really enjoyed the first one.

  11. Such goodness in this post, as always! I can never seem to get my timing right with Tova and it's always sold out. I was hopeful we'd get a pic of the gorgeous George at the end of the post and wasn't disappointed!!

  12. Love your new mini and the fabric you chose for that top. The Mendocino block is looking fab too :o)

  13. Love that curtain idea and I just suggested, once again, your fabric tutorial to Clover and Violet, who are working on organizing their fabrics. I am also re-reading Harry Potter, since it has been years. As usual - your color choices are just so rich. Most of my fabrics are from that greyed down era, but I still love them. I'm going to see if I can join up with the OPAM (One Project A Month) and try and get some things actually finished this year!!

  14. Oh, you've been so busy ~ I'm so looking forward to the next block of the month! I chose 4 colors for mine and love how the first block turned out ~ haven't shared it yet, but I will!
And ~ George is looking sweet as ever!

  15. Love your new mini, seasonal but not gushy :)

  16. So many fun photos in this post! You have been busy this weekend. I have been eyeing the Lush fabric at the Fat Quarter shop and am not sure how much longer I can resist... I love those dashed lines and colors. Hope you had a good weekend. Looking forward to Feb. hst

  17. I hadn't seen the dashed lines fabrics. Love those! It sounds like you had a fun week!

  18. Hi Jeni! I wish I were so productive as you are ;) I love your Mendocino blocks, these fabrics are so beautiful!
